What is an empath? Empaths are the feelers – they pick up on the energy and emotion of others. They are highly sensitive people and it is something we are born with rather than developed.
They can feel these energies close up and at a distance. They intuitively know when something is wrong or the energy of a person is not aligned with what the person is saying. They are good at reading body language. They sense deep emotion.
Recently I spoke to an Empath Medium, Maureen Romanowski – as a child she would cry when her friends cried and laughed when they laughed. She thought she was stupid – sadly many gifted people can feel isolated and confused. But once they discover they are not alone their journey takes off.
Empaths can tune into another’s energy and feel the pain or joy. They may know intuitively that something is wrong even when the other person denies it. This can become very frustrating for the empath and they end up questioning themselves – unless they have experience and can consult with a mentor.
Once a person acknowledges they are an empath they rejoice knowing they are not mad or stupid – and discover it is a wonderful gift to have. Why change something that doesn’t need fixing?
What is an Empath – Too Sensitive?
Too often if we don’t fit the “mould” we get labelled. And many an empath has had to carry the “too sensitive” label in their younger years. “He’s a sensitive boy”. “Leave her be, she’s just a little sensitive.” This can be very frustrating in a world where so many try to be that perfect person – a person Hollywood and advertising agencies create.
An empath may shy away from disastrous news stories. Leave heated discussions. And prefer not to share an opinion if it will upset the status quo. Many times they feel alone but quite enjoy their own company. They are many times creative people.
An empath’s feelings can be hurt easily. Often people will offload their frustrations and in many times their personal thoughts. An empath will have experienced near strangers sharing personal episodes of their lives. To others they are trusted and caring.
So what is an empath? Each of us is unique and the more we can understand and accept this – the greater our journey becomes.
