I asked a skeptic to define skeptic. And his reply was not what I expected. Other people I have asked believed that a skeptic is someone who does not believe in anything paranormal. But they are wrong – perhaps they have been misled by some television shows. On these programs some skeptics come across as people who do not believing in anything at all of this nature.
Let’s Define Skeptic
Later I asked Richard if he had a bias towards not believing. He admitted he was human but if the scientific evidence came along he would accept it. I am not so sure. The skeptics are a great bunch of people, they have a terrific camaraderie and a sense of purpose. Being skeptics is their adventure in life. But I think they are safe as the whole paranormal world is about the senses and the invisible – how can you prove that?
I am the first to admit I am skeptical of many psychics and paranormal happenings. I have met the sharks, the charlatans, the would-be-if-they-could-be’s and then some. But I have also met people with unique gifts that just can’t be explained. And certain happenings that just can’t be explained. In my case if you asked me to define skeptic I would probably agree with Richard. My mind is open to the possibility but I don’t go out of my way to prove people right or wrong.
Skeptic or Believer?
Richard says a believer is someone who has a fixed mind. They either believe in the paranormal or they believe it does not exist. And no amount of evidence will change their minds. In fact some believers do not want to see any evidence at all – their minds are closed to anything outside their own beliefs. But isn’t that with many things in our world?
Skeptic Opens Mind
Psychic Medium Tracey Lee told me of a lady on one of her ghost tours who was a skeptic. This is the woman’s email to Tracey Lee.
The lady started out skeptical and possibly still is but now has a more open mind to the paranormal. I posted the pictures of ghosts on the website unexplained-mysteries and asked for comments. One reply from a senior member read: “I’d like to see a less grainy picture. And one of the window without the “apparition”. And whether there are any reports of “ghosts” in that room.” Hopefully I will get out to the location and take a few pictures myself.
I liked Richards reply when I asked him to define skeptic. Here is a link to his website www.skepticzone.tv
