Some may roll their eyes when you ask what does psychic mean. They just assume that because they know everyone knows. When I was about eleven a boy in my class used to say: “You don’t even know what sex is”. I would scamper to my dictionary and look up the word – sex: the state of being male and female. There it was in black and white – I certainly knew what sex was. But it wasn’t until later that I truly understood what sex meant – because I had experienced it. Yes, the dictionary meaning was correct but it left out the good parts.
The dictionary meaning of psychic is there in black and white but if you are having experiences the meaning falls short. You may have seen, heard or felt something that you can’t explain and you are here reading this. You are unsure of voices or experiences and fear talking about them because of ridicule. Hopefully this website can help point you in a direction. You might find my story: am I psychic interesting also.
What does psychic mean – to you?
You could be reading here because you may think you are psychic. Someone has said you are psychic. You have had an unexplained happening or you are curious. Many today use the word psychic to encompass the whole range of unexplained phenomenas. But we will explore just two – psychic and psychic medium. Basically a psychic is one who experiences clairvoyance, telepathy, extrasensory perception etc. A psychic medium is a person who connects with those passed and receives messages from the spirit world. (A psychic medium is psychic but not all psychics are psychic mediums). Basically psychic is anything beyond natural laws. So what does psychic mean? Most psychics agree it is experiencing something out of the ordinary. This may be good. Hopefully it is not bad.
The Arthur Findlay College in the UK is well worth exploring – although primarily about mediumship the college is certainly a great starting point. Or for some psychics the pinnacle of their psychic adventure.
Psychic phenomena or not?
Last week in my home a bottle of scented oil was tipped on its side – other than me, there has been nobody else in the house. I told a friend who is psychic and he asked was it the anniversary of a relative’s death. Yes, it was the 12th anniversary’s of my father’s death on the day it was toppled (I had not remembered that till later). Others have said: “it’s a psychic phenomena”. I am not that quick to accept it is a psychic happening – but it did let me think about my Dad more than I would have.
When someone asks me what does psychic mean I usually ask them: “What have you been experiencing”.
